Three-year-old Carlton filly Just For Today repaid the faith and patience of trainers Greg and Ben Hope when winning her maiden impressively at Addington on Friday night.

Having just her second start, Just For Today showed immense maturity and poise, moving from three back on the fence to parked over the final 600m by driver Ricky May and soon asserted her authority over the opposition in the home straight.

Co-trainer Ben Hope was thrilled with the performance.

"We've always liked her as a racing proposition. She qualified as a two-year-old and we could have raced her then, she qualified eight seconds under time behind Landman, another nice horse of ours," Ben said.

"But we thought since she wasn't eligible for any of the classic races at two we would just give her more time and she's really come back well this year."

That patience has well and truly paid off, with the filly impressing driver Ricky May after having just one start.

"Ricky said she felt like she really stepped up on Friday, she learned a lot from that first run and she's just stepped up. We will probably look towards some of the good age group races for her later in the season."
