Lazarus three-year-old, Nymbal, made a huge impression on Saturday night, winning the Group Three Redcliffe Derby in just his first start in Australia.

The winner of one race in New Zealand, Nymbal was recently sold to Australian interests and looks set to return dividends at short notice.

After ending up four back on the fence, a carefully timed run by driver Robert Morris saw Nymbal able to extricate from his tricky position and come four wide in the run home. Once he hit top gear, he simply decimated the opposition, winning in a 1.55.8 mile rate.

Trained by Kerryann Morris, Nymbal has now had 2 wins from 12 starts and four placings. He is out of Glenferrie EJ, an Art Major mare - the same cross at The Lazarus Effect.

Nymbal looks set to target further age feature racing, including the Queensland Derby.

Meanwhile on Friday night Lazarus had success in New Zealand, with Bruno Brigade winning in tough style at Cambridge.

The three-year-old gelding was fresh up for trainers Andrew and Lyn Neal, having last raced as a two-year-old in November.

Driver Todd Mitchell showed patience before sending Bruno Brigade three wide with 400m to go, landing parked and continuing to pour on the pressure into the home straight.

Showing great heart, Bruno Brigade wore down the pacemaker Olympic Ko, winning by a head. The duo finishing well clear of the rest of the field.

Bruno Brigade had shown good form at the workouts prior to his resumption and looks set to enjoy a competitive season as a three-year-old.

He is out of the talented seven win mare, Tristar Brigade, who is by Mach Three.
