He's the spitting image of his father, and brilliant five-year-old pacer, The Lazarus Effect, was rewarded at the highest racing level on Friday night at Alexandra Park.

The son of Lazarus was arrogant in winning the Group One Taylor Mile, and in doing so recorded the geldings first success at that level.

Trained and driven by Woodend trainer, Bob Butt, the duo put the hammer down with 500m to go over the mile, leaving a high quality field of Cup class horses in their wake. The margin was so huge in the home straight that Butt actually was able to ease The Lazarus Effect down over the final metres to win comfortably in 1.54.7.

Got The Chocolates rallied late for second, and dual NZ Cup winner and Aussie raider Swayzee ran into third. But they were chasing in vain as the pace making winner exploded clear at the top of the straight.

The Lazarus Effect has signalled his dominance at Alexandra Park, now being unbeaten in three starts there.

He is raced by the Alabar Racing Syndicate 2022, and was bred by Martin and Maureen Pierson.

Out of Art Major mare, Brook Street, The Lazarus Effect has now amassed an impressive career record of 17 starts, 11 wins, 4 seconds and one third for $266,430.

His feature wins to date include:

Group One Taylor Mile

Group Two City of Auckland Free For All

Group Three Founders Cup

Listed Yearling Sales Aged Classic

He's also placed second in the Group One Invercargill Cup and Group One Christian Cullen Classic.

The Lazarus Effect will now look to go back-to-back in the Group One scene, lining up in the Roy Purdon Memorial.

Lazarus will also be represented in Group One features, the Derby (Signman and Nymbal) and the Oaks (Time For Change.)

What is even more remarkable is that Lazarus has just 15 registered five-year-olds in New Zealand, and of that crop he's represented by The Lazarus Effect (11 wins), Jeremiah (7 wins), Change Tact (6 wins), Ask Me Lazarus (5 wins), Quicker Than Quick (5 wins) and Bad Habits and Rose of Clare (3 wins each to date).

Remarkably, all 15 horses have either raced or qualified.
