Carlton sires quinella result at Rangiora

Carlton continues to kick goals at stud, this week delivering an impressive quinella result at Rangiora on Sunday.
Three-year old filly, Just For Today, was fresh up after her maiden win at Addington in June and was facing her stablemate and fellow last start winner by Carlton, Brooks Spirit, also a three-year-old.
The duo both are trained by Greg and Ben Hope at Woodend Beach.
In a much anticipated match up, Brooks Spirit started the favourite over the 2000m 1-win standing start event and soon found himself in the parked position as he had in his win at Oamaru.
Just For Today, driven by Ricky May, landed herself in the coveted one-one on her stablemates back.
Over the short course distance manners were key, as the tempo remained true a Origin found the lead early, before handing to Royal Ahearn.
Upon entering the home straight Brooks Spirit kept his brave bid going, looming up and taking control within the final 200m, however Just For Today was able to join him on terms and the duo ran away from their rivals with Just For Today winning by half a length.
Just For Today has now had just the three career starts, for two wins, and is out of Majestic Son mare, Just One More.
Brooks Spirit has had two starts for one win and one second, and is out of Crazy N Love, a mare by Love You.
Co-trainer Ben Hope was thrilled with the result.
“They’ve both gone really good,” he told Wai Eyre Farm.
“Just For Today had gone in fresh with no trials, and while we were happy with her fitness it was still no mean feat for her to win like she did.”
“She’s a really speedy wee filly with a quick turn of foot, Ricky was really happy with her.”
Ben was also very pleased with his drive on Brooks Spirit, who was slightly less experience having just his second start.
“Brooks Spirit we are really happy with too, he’s a good stayer and the 2000m probably wasn’t his ideal distance.”
“He seems to go all day.”
“But we are really happy with the result. They are two nice three-year-olds that we are seeing doing really nice jobs.”
“They both have got great manners and good temperaments which is a testament to Carlton himself.”
Carlton has now had five starters this season, three of them winners, and continues to leave forward young trotters from limited numbers.
Carlton stands this season at Wai Eyre Farm for $1,000 plus GST, with the working fee included for mares served on farm.
