A gear change has resulted in another win for US Captain two-year-old, Hawaiian Warfare, in the Delaware Breeders Fund Stakes at Harrington Raceway on Tuesday NZ Time.

After winning in the first round of heats last week, Hawaiian Warfare found the front early from post one before handing to Bootcamp Baby inside the first quarter.

The tempo remained strong, running through the first half in 58 as Hawaiian Warfare stalked the pacemaker into the home turn.

As they fanned out into the straight, driver Mike Cole opted to take the passing lane run with the son of US Captain and rallied strongest to win by a neck going away at the line.

Coming from off the pace was a new tactic, after finding the lead in his previous wins of late.

But he had been inclined to wait for his opposition, so connections had been looking at options to keep him sharp during the running.

“We changed his bridle up and I think he was a little different tonight,” said driver Mike Cole.

“He knows how to do it, he just has a lot of colt in him still and he likes to play with the opposition – and stress me out,” Mike laughed.

“That was a good test mile for him for the final next week with that bridle change.”

“I think he’ll outrun any competition right now down the lane, if he has a target he will get there.”

Trained by Erin Neilson and owned by breeder Forrest Bartlett, Hawaiian Warfare has recorded six straight wins now from seven starts, with the other being a third placing against older opposition on debut.

US Captain also has fillies Sunday Suppers and US Fancy starting in heats of the series this week in Delaware.

From just seven foals sired while still racing in the United States, all seven have now raced or qualified for two individual winners – Hawaiian Warfare (6 wins) and Send Me Ten (2 wins).

An impeccably bred son of World Champions, Captaintreacherous and American Jewel, US Captain raced at the highest level throughout his career.

Serving 94 mares last season, he is extremely fertile and represents outstanding value for breeders looking for a fast modern pedigree of champions, and proven sire performance. Plus he is stamping his foals in the same mold as himself, impressive looking and correct individuals.

US Captain stands in New Zealand for just $3,000 plus GST (working fee included for mares served at Wai Eyre Farm and Macca Lodge) and just $3,300 including GST for Australian breeders.
