First NZ Winner for On A Streak a Group Winner!
On A Streak two-year-old filly La Venture gave her sire his first NZ winner, and broke her maiden rank in extreme style on Friday night at Addington, when winning the $40,000 Macca Lodge Sires Stakes 2YO Trotting Classique at Group Three level.
Showing great manners and natural ability, La Venture lead over the majority of the 1980m group feature with driver Samantha Ottley, after finding the lead with just over a lap to run.
In the final 400m she was allowed to extend herself, and showed a great turn of foot to run away from her rivals and win by two lengths.
Trained by Michael Purdon and Alison Ward of Woodend Beach, La Venture had been competing against mixed sex opposition during the early stages of her career with diligence.
She had placed on four occasions before her win, when racing against top two-year-old fields in Canterbury.
It was a popular win for a filly who has been so consistent at the highest level, and also for her trainers who recorded their second biggest success to date. (After winning the South Bay Cup at Kaikoura with Mystic Max)
La Venture was bred by Yabby Dam Farms, and is out of Australian mare La Serena – by Quaker Jet, and out of Donegal Flat, a half-sister to Kahlum the dam of the great Lyell Creek.
She is the first and only foal to race in New Zealand by On A Streak, and the reports on his progeny from trainers have been glowing - stating his foals possess great attitudes, clean gaits and early juvenile speed and ability.
In Australia he is the sire of Listed winners Bumper Crop and Arete Virtue.
It continues the brilliant start to the stud career of On A Streak, himself a former top juvenile in North America winning a 2YO Breeders Crown and was crowned O’Brien 2YO Trotting Colt or Gelding of the Year.
He is now the leading sire of two-year-old trotters in Australia, and the leading overall new season sire across both trotting and pacing gaits.

On A Streak stands at the special price of $2,800 plus GST for the remainder of this breeding season, with the working fee included for mares served at Wai Eyre Farm.
A one off booking/collection fee of $250 plus GST does apply – and all foals sired this year by Yabby Dam Farm stallions (fresh or frozen) are eligible for the newly announced $75,000 Yabby Dam Farms Trotting Classic for two-year-olds in Canterbury in 2030.
