Another 2YO qualifier for Lazarus

Whilst The Lazarus Effect has been all the talk early on in 2026 for Lazarus, his two-year-olds are starting to step out on to the track, with two impressive place getters to date.
On Tuesday another Lazarus two-year-old qualified at Rangiora.
Joey Arden is trained by Steve and Amanda Telfer and was competing against older rivals in his qualifying mobile trial over 2000m.
The two-year-old gelding had not been sighted at any learner workouts previously, and showed great raw ability after being asked to move forward off the fence from four back, to be parked midfield over the final 700m by driver Anthony Butt.
Still four lengths off the leader at the turn, Joey Arden balanced himself and hit his stride impressively to run down the leaders and win by a head.
Joey Arden ran the 2000m in 2.32.1, four seconds under the required qualifying time.
Owned by Stonewall Stud, Joey Arden was bred by John and Judy Stiven and is out of Crackabeach, an unraced Somebeachsomewhere mare and a daughter of Impish.
To date this season Lazarus has had two two-year-olds to the races, We Will Rise Again – who has had two starts for two thirds, including in the Group One Cardigan Bay Stakes.
And Jorja, a full sister to Jeremiah (7 wins to date), who caught the eye when flying into second by a head last Sunday in the Group Three Helen Pope Memorial Stakes for 2YO Fillies, run in a record time.
Other Lazarus two-year-olds who have qualified so far this season include: Aragorn, Artemis Arden, Eleazar, Mahutonga, Salazar and Tactacool.
