Carlton mare Carla Pixie extended her career record to six wins when successful at Globe Derby on Saturday night.

The four-year-old mare was having her second start back after a spell and racing in the Breeders Crown series in December, and was sent out a hot $1.85 favourite.

Driven by Wayne Hill for trainer and part owner Brent Lilley, Carla Pixie was not to have it all her own way however.

Forced to sit parked for the majority of the 1800m race, she soon showed her dominance and cruised home with plenty in reserve to win by three lengths.

The win was a nice confidence booster and return to form for the mare, who had been competing at a high level in her three-year-old campaign.

“She’s a nice mare, was just behind the best of her age group last year,” Brent Lilley told Wai Eyre Farm.

“I don’t have any plans in particular for her at this stage, we’ll just try and work our way through the grades with her now.”

Bred by Greg Hope, Richard Dellaca, J Dellaca and Jason Yang, Carla Pixie had three starts in New Zealand as a two-year-old for three second placings, including a placing in the Group Three New Zealand Two-Year-Old Trotting Stakes.

She was then sold to Australia where her career record now sits at 33 starts, six wins, eight placings and $57,196 in earnings.

Carla Pixie is out of Mega Pixels, a Monarchy mare.

Carlton’s oldest progeny are now four-years-old and he’s had success with Carla Pixie and Luca (3 wins) to date from a small crop of racing age.

He’s also sired the impressive qualifier in Brooks Spirit, who is now three and recently won his maiden trial by 11 lengths.

Carlon has a two-year-old recent qualifier in Call Me Bella with Andre Poutama also.
