A son of Captaintreacherous, who was crowned US Horse of the Year in just his two-year-old season, US Captain is the first foal of the phenomenal race mare, American Jewel.

American Jewel (American Ideal) was crowned two and three-year-old pacing filly of the year in both Canada and the United States during her juvenile seasons.

Trained by Jimmy Takter, American Jewel dominated the North American scene in her age bracket, becoming a World Champion at both two and three, and set or equalled four world records during her career.

Her major victories came in the $500,000 Breeders Crown, $642,000 Fan Hanover and the $633,000 She’s A Great Lady.

As a two-year-old American Jewel set a mile best time of 1.50.2, which at that time was the fastest ever for a filly of her age.

She also became the fastest three-year-old filly at the time when winning the Fan Hanover in 1.48.2. Winning six stake races that year, American Jewel earned $US 1,163,449 in that season alone.

US Captain is her first foal, and was sold as a yearling for $180,000.

He raced against a strong crop of juveniles, racing and placing against the likes of Bettor’s Wish and Captain Crunch, and raced into the open grade where he recorded a best mile of 1.48.1 and 22 career wins.

He recorded 16 sub 1.50 miles during his career.
